Mission​
The Newman Catholic Center empowers college students to form authentic Christian community, celebrate the diverse expressions of their Catholic faith, and discern their vocation as disciples of Jesus for the Church and the world.  We seek to embrace the call of discipleship and journey in faith together through servant leadership. 

Student Leaders are essential to this mission. They work as a volunteer team to support the Director and Program Coordinator in serving the students of Chico State and surrounding colleges through service, accompaniment, and personal witness to the love of Christ. 
General Expectations and Responsibilities
  • Grow in friendship, faith, and servant leadership
  • Be an example of welcoming, belonging, and fellowship
  • Attend all Council meetings, formation, and training opportunities
    • Council Meeting: Sundays (see specific position for meeting time)
    • Formation: Once a month Sunday for 2 hours
    • Training: Summer TBD  Winter TBD
    • All Newman Leadership Retreat: TBD
  • Be present and participate at Sunday Student Mass
    • Student Mass: Sundays 7:00pm
  • Participate in outreach activities eg. on campus tabling, fundraising, general outreach 
  • Empower students to serve and lead
  • Work in conjunction with other student leaders to plan and organize events
  • Academics
    • Must be a currently enrolled student in good academic standing. Exceptions at the discretion of the Director
  • Supervision
    • As a Council Member, you will report to the Director and Program Coordinator
  • Commitment
    • The term is one full academic year
    • Average 5-10 hours per week (hours may vary according to the time of the year and team responsibilities)
Areas of Responsibility and Focus​
Campus Ministers
Direct assistants to the Newman Director and Program Coordinator in all aspects of the mission as needed.
Required Commitment:
Attendance at Weekly Campus Minister Meeting, Administration Meeting, and Council Meeting
Attend Weekly Sunday Student Mass
Facilitate Monthly Spiritual & Leadership Development
Summer Training & Retreat (Date: TBD)
Winter Training & Retreat (Date: TBD)
Support Newman Outreach events
  • Accompaniment of council in their specific ministerial roles
  • Develop and execute retreats and trainings for the council
  • Meet regularly with Newman Director and Program Coordinator, to develop and execute strategies in the areas of formation, culture, and community
  • Develop talks and testimony
  • Develop and maintain ministerial relationships with students and community
Administration

President
The President is the face of Chico Newman and is an active representative resource in the community both on campus and in St. John the Baptist Parish.  The President is the head of administration and responsible for maintaining communication between the Directors and the Council. This position reports to the Newman Director and Program Coordinator.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 
  • Directly oversee Sunday programming
  • Meet regularly with Newman Director, Program Coordinator, and Campus Ministers to develop and execute strategies in the areas of formation, culture, and community
  • Accompaniment of Council in their specific ministerial roles
  • Develop talks and testimony
  • Develop and maintain ministerial relationships with students and community
Vice President
The Vice President is the face of Chico Newman and is an active representative resource in the community both on campus and in St. John the Baptist Parish. The Vice President is the head of The Foundation and responsible for the development and maintenance of the Representatives. This position reports to the Newman Director and Program Coordinator.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Plan and execute weekly involvement of the Foundation and its representatives
  • Directly oversee special event programming involving the Foundation eg. tabling, fundraising, donor relations
  • Develop strategies targeting optimum outreach opportunities and execute Foundation involvement eg. Choose Chico, Donor Database, Student Registration, etc.
  • Support the President’s initiatives 
Marketing Coordinator
Marketing Coordinator is responsible for the direct oversight of the Executive Ministries. The Marketing Coordinator is at the head of The Executive Ministries and responsible for the development and maintenance of its members. The Marketing Coordinator is directly responsible for communicating the Mission, Vision, and Values of the Newman Center through media. This position reports to the Newman Director and Program Coordinator.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Directly oversee execution of Wednesday Programming
  • Guide and accompany planning and execution of weekly marketing strategies with the Executive Ministries team
    • Flyers, Instagram, Facebook, larger media campaigns
  • Directly oversee special event marketing involving The Newman Center as a whole eg. retreats, weekly schedule, monthly calendar, etc.
  • Develop strategies targeting optimum marketing opportunities for The Newman Center eg. lawn signs, fliers on campus, social media campaigns, etc.
Secretary
Secretary is responsible for the organization and management systems necessary to support the various ministries of the Newman Center. Specifically, acting as the administrative assistant to the Newman Director and Program Coordinator. This position reports to the Newman Director and Program Coordinator.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Directly oversee execution of Wednesday Programming
  • Manage organizational projects for the Directors eg. onboarding/offboarding council, council key checkout, tracking fingerprinting, safe haven, etc.
  • Work with Directors on development of communications and documents, follow up protocol, and general facility management
  • Consult as necessary on organizational strategies for the various ministries of Newman
Treasurer
Treasurer is responsible for financial organization and management systems necessary to support the various ministries of the Newman Center. Specifically, acting as a financial administrative assistant to the Directors. This position reports to the Newman Director and Program Coordinator.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Directly oversee Tuesday Programming
  • Manage financial organization projects for the Directors eg. Petty Cash management, accompany budget  management and fundraising for Fellowship Prefects, Mass Collection counting and deposits, Reimbursement forms for Council members
Development Coordinator
Development Coordinator is responsible for the accompaniment of the Fellowship Prefects and Fellowship Developers in the research and processing of programmatic resources for Fellowship Ministries. The Development Coordinator’s primary focus is the success of the Fellowship Program Nights and relevant translation of Catholic Faith resources. This position reports to the Newman Director and Program Coordinator.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Directly oversee Wednesday Programming
  • Research and Development of programmatic resources eg. videos, podcasts, articles, scripture etc.
  • Accompaniment of Prefects in their specific ministerial roles
  • Development of talks and testimony
  • Actionable Discipleship through teaching
